Lab Assistant
Computers For
Learning
Position Summary:
Serve as assistant for CIS/CSC 101 faculty in classroom
setting. Help students solve computer and software problems. Exhibit positive attitude, enthusiasm, and
desire for helping people.
Supervisor:
Reports
to the Computers For Learning Coordinator.
Position
Location:
Glass
Hall and/or Cheek Hall.
Responsibilities include:
Assist
faculty by providing students with basic assistance in using software
applications used in the CFL class and refer users to self-help materials
when appropriate.
Report minor
problems with the classroom computer hardware/software to faculty and/or CFL
User Support Specialist.
Assist in
keeping classroom printers supplied with paper as needed.
Attend
mandatory training session with CFL Coordinator or faculty member.
Make preparations
of materials before attending class. Requirements will be provided by
faculty.
Education,
Experience, and Skills Required:
Must have completed CIS/CSC 101 course with a
grade of B or better.
Knowledge of MS-Office products, Windows operating
system basics, some knowledge of PC hardware is preferred.
Ability to
effectively listen to and respond to user inquiries.
Excellent communication, interpersonal and
organizational skills required, especially in regards to the use of
computers.
Ability to work
independently and unsupervised, a quick learner, flexible, and able to
function effectively under unusual stress.
Ability to assist students whenever the instructor
is not present.
Expectations:
Must be able to attend training and/or prepare
independently to answer questions and assist students in class.
Required to
work a minimum of two hours per week
Preference
given to students who can work more than two hours at a time and for at least
two days per week.
Preference
given to students who provide a written letter of recommendation from their
CFL instructor.
Compensation:
This
position pays $6.00 per hour.
Lab
assistant will have the opportunity to reinforce knowledge learned in CFL
Lab
assistant will have opportunity to develop computer-related communication
skills.
